This is what Day 1 looks like. It only gets intereting from here.

Welcome to Pete’s Parenting Pointers. A collection of parenting tips based on expereince. Some were passed on by other parenting veterans, others were developed based on my own parenting style and fun to learn and some were lessons learned the hard way. This website was inspired by my friend Jeff. Recently, he informed me that his wife was pregnant and as he has no experience with children he could use all the help he can get. I have a few parenting years under my belt, including a stint as a stay-home-dad. So I have at least a couple nuggets of advice to pass on.

I promised him I would give him pointers until his kid was born. I decided to create this blog as a way to pass on the lessons that I have learned. Again, some the hard way. This is written by a man, from a man’s perspective, mostly for men. I think everyone can glean some tips out it, and hopefully get a little entertainment. After all, there is a lot of laughter being a parent.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed being a parent. Feel free to comment and pass on your own tips. He can use all the help he can get.

So exciting! Our baby is only a little over a year old, but here’s what I learned: go with what feels right to you, as long as you love your baby and help him/her feel that love. Scheduled feedings or feeding on demand? How about a little of both. You will find advice and experts that say completely contradictory things. Oh, and have a few plans at the ready once you meet the personality of your little one. Be flexible.

You might also think about a way to organize the links you like so you can pull them out again when you want. I was using my computer’s bookmarks but then couldn’t access them from other computers or share with my friends. Then I used FB for a while but felt bad for spamming everyone as well as realizing that the history will eventually go away and there’s no organization. Now I use Delicious (http://www.delicious.com/allieproff) and tag with one or multiple tags (parenting, baby, breastfeeding, circumcision, discipline, vaccines, etc.). Feel free to browse my tags. But please keep in mind that these are articles that speak to me, that I like to share with others because I think it’s good advice, but I’m not telling you what you to do.

I would love to hear from you. Leave a Reply
